William Moll, Matthew Riedel and Cole Sherwood join Gordon Sargent on Division I PING All-America teams

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the second year in a row, four student-athletes from the Vanderbilt men's golf team have earned Division I PING All-America honors with the announcement of this season's teams by the Golf Coaches Association of America Tuesday.

Willliam Moll was a third-team selection with both Matthew Riedel and Cole Sherwood receiving honorable mention accolades to join Gordon Sargent, who was named a first-team All-American last week. Since 2002, 17 Commodores have earned GCAA All-America recognition on 35 occasions with 24 of those honors coming in the last nine seasons.

An All-American selection each of the previous two years, Moll posted a 70.5 stroke average and four top-five finishes this season to also be named first-team All-SEC. He opened the campaign by earning medalist honors at the Frederica Cup with a 19-under-par 197 total before concluding the regular season with back-to-back runner-up results at the Linger Longer Invitational and Calusa Cup and tying for third at the Mason Rudolph Championship. After tying for sixth at the SEC Championships, the Houston resident went 2-0-1 in match play at the event.

Riedel was named first-team all-conference as well after recording four top-five performances and a 70.9 scoring average for the season. With a 13-under-par 197 three-round score, the Houston native was the SEC Fall Match Play medalist while he closed out the fall with victories in both matches to help Vandy claim the East Lake Cup. Riedel opened the spring in a tie for fourth at the John Hayt Invitational, also tying for fifth at both the Cabo Collegiate and Mason Rudolph Championship before ending the NCAA Auburn Regional in a tie for seventh place.

It's the second season in a row that Sherwood has been named a GCAA All-American, as he had four top-10 finishes and a 71.0 scoring average to be named second-team all-league as well in 2022-23. Hailing from Austin, Texas, the junior had an 18-under-par 198 54-hole total to place second at the season-opening Frederica Cup, and he tied for fourth at the Watersound Invitational with a 12-under-par 204 score after shooting in the 60s in all three rounds of both events. Sherwood would go on to lead the Dores at the NCAA Championships, tying for 29th after opening the event with a 4-under-par 66.

Their efforts helped Vandy win six different tournaments during the 2022-23 season while making the program's ninth straight appearance in the NCAA Championships.
